Among the finest [trios], properly balanced and with a delightful twist of its own…
Alfred Brendel
Deeply musical, with a seemingly endless range of expression: poetic, sensitive and virtuosic…
Sally Beamish OBE
An expressive sensitivity that is remarkable combined with a very sophisticated interpretative rigour
John Myerscough (Doric Quartet)
truly wonderful […] Out of all the performances of my ‘Trio’ that have been played so far, […] my absolute favourite. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for discovering a new charm in this music.

Since its formation in 2021, the award-winning Astatine Trio has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young ensembles, most recently being named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists for 2025-27. They won second prize and the special prize at the 2025 Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition in Graz – becoming the first UK-based ensemble to win a main prize in the competition’s history.
The trio’s approach has been greatly shaped by the mentorship of legendary pianist Alfred Brendel, who upon first hearing invited them to work regularly with him from 2022.
