Maja Horvat

Maja Horvat communicates the impact of music in her performances so that everyone can find comfort in art. She explores the magic of her instrument, giving contemporary pieces a good start in life and playing unknown gems from the 20th century as well as celebrated masterpieces.

Maja gave her debut performance at Wigmore Hall in 2021 as first violinist of the Brompton Quartet, of which she was a founding member. She has performed with some of the world’s most prominent chamber musicians including Sir Andras Schiff, Steven Isserlis, Tabea Zimmerman, Christian Tetzlaff, Vladimir Mendelssohn and David Cohen.

In 2019 Maja was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Emily Anderson Prize for an outstanding violinist. Among other accolades, she has won the Temsig Slovenian National Competition and the International Tartini Competition and was awarded the Special Szymanowski Prize at the inaugural Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition; most recently, she won Third Prize and the Wajnberg Prize at the 2nd Mieczyław Wajnberg International Violin Competition. Maja has performed as soloist with orchestras such as the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra and appeared at festivals including the Tartini Festival, Stift International Music Festival, ChamberJam Düsseldorf and Festival Ljubljana. As an orchestral musician she has performed as a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Oxford Philharmonic and Fidelio Orchestra. Maja was a Tillett Debut Scheme Artist for 2022/23.

In 2022 Maja graduated from the Royal College of Music in London, completing her Artist Diploma under the tutelage of Alina Ibragimova and working with internationally acclaimed performers including Maxim Vengerov, Ivry Gitlis, Nicola Benedetti, Daniel Rowland and Leonid Kerbel.
